The latest screen-to-stage adaptation, it seems amazing it took this long for Iain Softley's 1994 film Backbeat to end up in a theatre, so good a fit is it. Nick Blood plays Stuart Sutcliffe, the original Fifth Beatle (a title later claimed by so many people, there must have been more Fifth Beatles than there were Actual Beatles.) Last year's Doctor Who episode 'The Lodger' was ripe for a sequel, although largely because of the presence of a Silence spaceship upstairs, something that Gareth Roberts doesn't actually revisit when he returns to Colchester for "Closing Time." Maybe he forgot about it. DO! YOU! SEE! Oh please yourselves. ( Spoilers for 'Closing Time' )

Second in the Trevor Nunn Season at TRH is a transfer for his Chichester production of the existential comedy Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. I went with Jan, who'd seen the play before and liked it, and vanessaw, who hadn't seen this particular one before but is a big Stoppard fan - my own feelings on the playwright have tended to be more mixed. Approaching the tail end of my theatrical marathon and we're onto the "Part 2"s.
